About Us
Who We Are
Dr. Justin Gates, C.Psych.
Clinical Psychologist; Clinic Director
My name is Justin Gates and I'm a clinical psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). I provide assessment and treatment services to adolescents and adults (ages 12 and above).
Rarely do people find a career that they are passionate about. A Gallup poll from 2011/2012 found that only 16 percent of Canadians "work with passion and feel a profound connection to their company" (of course, I could argue that people can work to support other passions, including raising children!). I can honestly say that I am passionate about the work that I do. I say this not to boast that I'm one of the lucky few, but to suggest that you will receive my best services because I actively enjoy my work. The greatest satisfaction I find in my work is when the services I provide genuinely help you to live a better, healthier life.
Education
-
Ph.D., clinical psychology ~ Queen's University
-
M.A., clinical psychology ~ Lakehead University
-
H.B.A., psychology (minor in sociology) ~ University of Windsor
My training and experience have included a range of symptom severity levels, from psychiatric hospital inpatients to high functioning individuals living otherwise healthy, productive lives. I've encountered much diversity in my work, and continue to provide services to clients from varied walks of life. All are welcome!
Dr. Kojo Mintah, C.Psych.
Neuropsychologist
Dr. Kojo Mintah is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. He provides neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments to children and adolescents, including full autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessments that are combined with neuropsychological/psychoeducational assessments. He also provides therapy services to youth experiencing anxiety, mood, behavioural, or executive functioning difficulties.
Dr. Mintah’s therapeutic approach draws primarily on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), but may occasionally incorporate aspects of dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based methods, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based therapies. His process begins with a brief assessment of his clients’ personal strengths and any challenges they may be facing. With this understanding, Dr. Mintah then collaborates with his clients on a treatment plan designed to improve their overall functioning, happiness, and life satisfaction.
Dr. Mintah obtained his Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s (M.A.) degrees in Research Psychology from the University of Toronto and Carleton University, respectively. He then obtained his Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Child Clinical Neuropsychology from York University. Dr. Mintah has trained across a variety of settings including hospital, community, and private practice settings including a one-year rotation in neuropsychology at the SickKids hospital in Toronto, and a residency year at CBT Associates. When not at his private practice, Dr. Mintah works as a neuropsychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa.
